CORESENSE at HRI2025 in Melbourne

HRI2025

Our partner, PAL Robotics, recently attended the Human-Robot Interaction Conference (HRI2025) in Melbourne, Australia, from March 3rd to 6th. This year’s conference focused on a special theme: “Robots for a Sustainable World.”

Researchers and practitioners from around the globe gathered to discuss and explore the intersection of robotics, artificial intelligence, and our human social world.

PAL Robotics showcased their advances in cognitive architectures through various activities:

  • Day 1: Our partner conducted a tutorial discussing the challenges of building socio-cognitive architectures for interactive robots and how ROS can help modularize these systems. This was followed by a hands-on session where participants engaged with PAL’s simulator to materialize the concepts discussed.
  • WP8 Social Testbed Leader, Raquel Ros, presented in the session “Explainability in Human-Robot Collaboration: Real-world Concerns.” She highlighted the differences between explaining concepts to developers versus end-users and discussed the various tools and approaches to consider.
  • Days 2 and 3: PAL Robotics demonstrated their ROS 2 cognitive architecture on the new Tiago Head platform, inspired by CORESENSE foundations. This architecture is a hybrid symbolic/subsymbolic system that integrates explicit ontology semantics for perception, reasoning, and execution, with LLMs.
  • Day 4: Ferran Gebellí presented his latest advances in personalizing explanations for end-users based on past encounters through a poster presentation.
